A set of books belonging to Verda Nell Bonnie Whittington all by author Emma Dorothy Eliza Nevitte (E.D.E.N.) Southworth (1819-1899), an American Novelist writing many novels set in post-Civil War America. Collection consists of 87 Southworth novels as well as a personal card catalog for the books.
Donated by Julie McCoy, daughter of Bonnie Whittington, Adjunct Professor in Voice for Oklahoma State University. Bonnie Whittington (d. 2015) began her love of Emma Southworth novels at the age of 14 when she first read Ishmael during her time at the Bexar County Home for Girls in San Antonio, TX, and collected Southworth's works throughout her life. Whittington, with training in short-hand and typing spent 28 years as the office manager for the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, producer of the long-running outdoor musical production "TEXAS" in Canyon, TX. Bonnie would settle and spend the rest her life in Canyon with her husband Joseph C. Whittington (d.1958) and her three children whom Joseph Jr., Bonnie Jo and Julie.
