Scope and Content

Collection contains materials from portions of dismantling the OSURG collection, remnants of the BB Chapman collections and donations that fit most apparently in this collection. The only overriding theme is OSU and OAMC. Material in this collection provides some information on the history of the campus and its traditions.

Administrative History

Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (OAMC) was founded in 1890 under the Morrill Act of 1862. The first classes were held in 1891, and the first commencement was in 1896 with a graduating class of 6 male students. The campus' first building was Old Central, built in 1894.

It became known as Oklahoma State University in 1957.
