Biographical Sketch

Carl E. Baum (1940-2010) received his BS and MS in 1962 and 1963, respectively, in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He received his Ph.D. in Electrial Engineering from the same institution in 1969. Dr. Baum worked for the United States Air Force from 1971-2005 as a Senior Scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory. He then took an appointment as a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of New Mexico's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Baum's research involved electromagnetics and EMPs. He is well-known for creating the "Trestle" at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The "Trestle" is a test stand for the world's largest electromagnetic pulse simulator.

In addition to his work in engineering, Dr. Baum was an amateur composer of music.
