Biograpical Sketch
Conrad attended Oklahoma State University, Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He received his Bachelors in Agronomy and a Masters in Agronomy with an emphasis in Plant Breeding and Genetics. Conrad worked as the Associate Director for International Programs at OSU from 1978 until he retired in 1993. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Stillwater. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Ethiopia Society, Phi Beta Delta-the honor society for International Scholars, and the American Institute of Plant Engineers.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the Navy as a Seaman First Class from 1945-1946. From 1950-1956 he worked with his family farming wheat and raising livestock. His defining work was the Ethiopia- Oklahoma A & M Project from 1956-1968. Conrad was the Head of Foundation Seed at OSU from 1968-1973. He was Executive Vice President of Denison Peanut Company in Denison, TX from 1973-1978. In 1992 Conrad served as a United Nations Election Observer in Ethiopia. From the year 1978 to 1985 he was an Educational Consultant for the Institute for International Education. He administered the World Bank Forestry Development project in Ethiopia from 1990-1995. Conrad was also the President of the Oklahoma International Development Group from 1993-1998. The country and people of Ethiopia held a special place in his heart. He wanted to be remembered as "one who loved his fellow man." He passed away on June 23, 2011 at the age of 84 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. (Stillwater NewsPress obituary,7/08/2011)
