Common-place Book Collection

 Collection
Identifier: 2012-018

Scope and Contents

Collection contains 1 leatherbound journal, stamped with the seal of the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, with 122 pages and a table of contents. The journal consists of handwritten and typed copies of poems from poets such as Emily Dickinson, Rudyard Kipling, Sara Teasdale, and others, and possibly original poems written by the owner of the journal and by others the owner knew, especially the men of CCC co. 810.

The backs of some of the pages also contain information on the CCC co. 810, and some of the poems and other brief lines were written by men who worked in that company.

For more information on this book, see Belinda Bruner's article in the Winter 2010 State Magazine. A copy of the article is located in the collection's data file.

Collection also contains one notebook with handwritten lyrics to the "Streets of Laredo," also known as the "Cowboy's Lament."
