Biographical Sketch

Roscoe Rouse’s career at Oklahoma State University began in 1967 and continued until his retirement in 1987. During the twenty years of his term as Dean of Libraries, the library acquired its millionth volume, built a major addition to Low Library, launched an architecture library and the Oklahoma City technical library at the branch campus. Rouse was very active in the local committee, serving on the Stillwater Library board, helping build the new community library. Management of libraries from local to international was one of the interests of his career. This is reflected in his involvement in state, Oklahoma Library Association, national, American Library Association, and international, International Federation of Libraries, activities. Rouse served as President of OLA in 1971/72 and councilor for OLA with ALA. In ALA, Rouse served as chair and member of several committees and task forces. Rouse was involved in the OSU program to educate school librarians and media specialists. As part of that program he conducted an extensive tour of Easter Libraries as a credit course. After retirement, Rouse wrote the Library volume of the series of books celebrating the OSU Centennial.

Processing Information

Folders with the same headings for multiple years were consolidated. Published items such as brochures, newsletters, annual and quarterly reports were removed. Also removed were photocopies of journal articles and similar material. Files, including minutes and memorandum, for OSU committees and organizations were moved to appropriate collections. Items within folders were left in the order found. Photographs were left within the collection.
