Administrative History

The first band at OAMC was begun by a student, Harry Dunn, in 1905. The band, which had 22 members, performed at athletic events and provided their own equipment and instruments. The first director was Mr. Wood, who directed the band from 1905-1907. He was followed by his son, Lloyd Wood, who directed the band in 1907. In 1910, after several directorial changes, the band was furnished with uniforms and equipment by the military science department so that they could perform at ROTC events.

The band flourished under director Boh Makovsky, who sent the band on annual tours of the state to promote the band and the college. The tours lasted from 1916-1931.

When the college changed its name to Oklahoma State University in 1957, the present alma mater and pep song were created. The Alumni Band was created in 1979, and still continues to this day, with members performing at one football game and filling in in the pep band for band members who attend a bowl game.
