Scope and Contents

Collection contains beaded headband worn by Mrs. Tompkins (Katherine McCollom's mother) in her role as advisor for first Native American club at OSU. Letter written by Capt. Francis Tompkins June 5, 1823. Collection also contains a Cherokee roll of 1835 of Sharp Mountain, GA of Dave Weaver's family.

Biographical Sketch

The headband was worn by Mrs. Tompkins (Katherine McCollom's mother) in her role as advisor to the first Native American student club at OSU. Roy Tompkins was the director of the Extension program at OSU.

Katherine's husband, Kenneth McCollom, was Dean of Engineering at OSU for about 15 years.

The letter in this collection was written by Captain Tompkins, who served in the Revolutionary War. This letter is believed to be a letter notifying the recipient of Captain Tompkins' brother's death. This brother's name was Colonel Christopher Tompkins.
