Collection contains one audio cassette tape of Kathleen Gardner's oral history interview with Dr. Dale McKinney, Oklahoma State University Dept. of Art, and 8 photographs of his work, and one audio cassette tape of Gardner's oral history interview with Professor Doug Hale, OSU Dept. of History.

The interview with Hale covers the settlement of Oklahoma, and the interview with McKinney covers the influence of art on Stillwater, Oklahoma, former students, and other topics.

Biographical Sketch

Kathleen V.G. Gardner graduated from Oklahoma State University with her M.S. in 1980, and her Ph.D. in 1989. In Stillwater, she was involved in Town and Gown Theatre, the Art Guild, Chamber of Commerce, an interior design business (Gardner Designs), and was a real estate associate for EVA Real Estate. She taught at Baylor University and in the Dallas County Community College District.

Douglas Denton Hale, Jr. (October 2, 1929-December 26, 2014), was born in Jacksonville, Texas. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served for three years as a special agent for the U.S. Counter Intelligence Corps. In 1956, he enrolled in a Master's program at the University of Missouri, and completed his Ph.D. in History from the University of Texas in 1961. In 1963, he was appointed as a professor of history at Oklahoma State University, where he taught for 18 years. Hale's obituary can be viewed here.

Myron Dale McKinney (1911-1994) was born in Hollister, Oklahoma. He earned his his earned his Bachelor of Arts from Central State College (now the University of Central Oklahoma) and his Master of Arts from Oklahoma State University. McKinney was a very influential Associate Professor of Art at Oklahoma State University as well as a highly respected a painter, printmaker, and sculptor. McKinney exhibited at prestigious galleries and museums across the untites states including the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, The Museum of Non-Objective Painting at the Guggenhiem, Dallas Museum of Art, and the Philbrook Art Museum.
