Biographical Sketch

Phillip Bryant Horne (1870-1957) was born in Coffeyville, Kansas. He made the land run at the opening of the Cherokee Strip and staked out land near Blackwell, Oklahoma in Kay County. He worked at the 101 Ranch to earn extra money. Horne met Nellie Culver and married her on April 17, 1896.

Nellie Culver Horne (1876-1955) worked as a music teacher, and then taught in rural schools in Kay County. She graduated from the Oklahoma City School of Chiropractice in 1908 and spent the rest of her life in practice. Phil built her the first mechanical chiropractic table. The Hornes moved to Denver, Colorado in 1908 and then moved back to Blackwell fifteen years later. They moved to Kansas and stayed there until moving to Medford, Oklahoma in 1935.

More information on the Hornes can be found in the collection's data file held in the repository.
