Scope and Contents

Collection contains books, articles, classroom materials, poems, songs, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, and speeches of Angelo C. Scott, relating to the early years of Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, the Men’s Dinner Club, and to Dr. Scott’s activities in Oklahoma City, 1889-1949. Also included are newspaper clippings and commencement and campus events programs.

Each item is numbered and most are in order in the boxes. Boxes 6-8 are out of order by item number. Items cataloged for Special Collections designated with SC for box number and missing items are marked with M.

Biographical Sketch

Angelo Cyrus Scott (1857-1949) served as president of Oklahoma A & M College from July 1, 1899, to June 30, 1908. Scott was born near Franklin, Indiana, attended the University of Kansas (BA, MA), and Columbian College (now George Washington University) (bachelor and master of law). Emporia College awarded him the honorary doctor of literature degree in later years. With his brother, W.W. Scott, A.C. Scott founded Oklahoma City’s first newspaper, the Oklahoma Times. He also founded the Men’s Dinner Club of Oklahoma City. After his term of president of OAMC, he became chairman of the English Department at Oklahoma City University.
