Biographical Sketch

According to his obituary, which can be found here, http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/houstonchronicle/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=176368184, "Les was born on May 2, 1943, the third of five children to Leslie H. and Mary C. Matthies in Los Angeles, California. At the age of 16, his family moved to Tulsa, OK and he graduated from Edison High School in 1962. Les attended Oklahoma State University earning a BS in Marketing in 1966 and an MBA in 1968. He worked for Cities Service and Occidental Petroleum for 38 years in the IT department. While he had many "jobs" with Oxy, he is remembered by most as the director of F.A.S.T Class from the early 1970s to the mid 1980s, an in-house educational program developed to train computer programmers.

"Les married his wife Chris in 1989. After Les' retirement, he volunteered with Linnaeus Teaching Gardens."
