Administrative History

The College of Education at Oklahoma A&M College began as the Teachers’ Normal Division in 1908. The Teachers’ Division became the School of Teachers Normal Training in 1913 and was renamed the School of Education in 1914. During the 1927-28 school year, the Department of Education was formed within the School of Education and continued until 1936-37 school year. During the 1949-50 school year, the Department of Education was re-established in the School of Education and was active until the 1972-73 school year. In 1958, the School of Education became the College of Education, a name it kept until June 2017.

In June 2017, the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma A&M Colleges approved the College of Education's name change to the College of Education, Health and Aviation. Along with the name change, the college will reorganize its academic structure, shifting from three to four schools. The new academic units are: • School of Teaching, Learning and Educational Sciences • School of Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Aviation • School of Community Health Sciences, Counseling, and Counseling Psychology • School of Kinesiology, Applied Health, and Recreation
