Scope and Contents

A small collection of artifacts belonging the Vandegirft family, including a "Flying Aggies" Coach's Wife Jacket belonging to Celia Vandegrift, Wife of James Vandegrift, a former coach of the Oklahoma State Flying Aggies (1979-1983). Collection also includes a scrapbook created by Virginia "Soozi" Vandgrift regarding her husband, J. Richard Vandgrift's, role as Assistant Training Director in the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) program at OAMC.

Biographical / Historical

James Vandegrift graduated from OAMC in 1953 with a Bachelors degree and was commissioned as a second liutenant in the United States Air Force. Vandegrift returned to OSU as a faculty memeber for Deparment of Occupationa and Adult Education in 1979 and served as Coach for the Flying Aggies from 1979-1983. James married Celia Severline in 1952. James Vandegrifts mother Virginia "Soozi" Vandegrift created this scrapbook to document the work of her husband J. Richard Vandgrift, a former Accounting Professor and Director of the Bennett Foundation, in the WAVES program. J. Richard Vandegrift was the Assistant Training Director for the WAVES program and tuahgt stenography and typing to cadets.
