Biographical / Historical
Steven W. Taylor (b. 1949) graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Oklahoma State University in 1971 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1974. He served in the United States Marine Corp ultimately serving as Special Court Martial Judge until 1978. After his time in the armed forces, Taylor became the youngest mayor of McAlester Oklahoma from 1982 to 1984. His career judicial work began in 1984 when he served as an Oklahoma District Court Judge for Pittsburg County from 1984-2004 presiding over many high profile cases including the Oklahoma City Bombing trial against Terry Nichols. in 2004, Taylor was then appointed by Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry to the Oklahoma Supreme Court eventually achieving the title of Chief Justice from 2011 to 2013. He would retire from his position in 2016.
