Administrative History

The mutual aid societies provided sickness and death benefits. They became social and fraternal functions that later became labor organizations. To become a member, one had to demonstrate the following: have been born in Italy or a son of an Italian father, speak Italian, and have been a resident of Krebs for 3 months. If invited to join, one had to give background information and present a medical certificate. By the 1940's most societies ceased to exist, and some consolidated with the Knights of Columbus lodge at Krebs.
