Collection contains oral histories and field notes done by the Institute of American Indian Studies at the University of South Dakota (1967 - 1976). Subjects include Oklahoma Native American Program, AIM membership, experiences during World War II, United Tribes, urban migration, and land allotments.

Interviews are from people in Oklahoma, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

Administrative History

The Institute of American Indian Studies at the University of South Dakota was founded in 1955 by a decree from the South Dakota legislature. Its goal is to: ""to provide persons of Indian descent with educational opportunities both on and off the campus of the University of South Dakota and to provide to all persons the opportunity to research and study the history, culture, and language of the Indians of North America and South Dakota. (SDCL 13-57-3.2)" and to support awareness of and foster positive relationships with, Native American culture and the community at large.
