Administrative History

Dr. Josephine Hoffer, then acting head of the College of Home Economics (now Human Environmental Sciences) at Oklahoma State University, initiated the Oklahoma Association on Children Under Six (OACUS) in 1960. Affiliated with the Southern Association on Children Under Six, whose 1956 conference was held (for the first time west of the Mississippi) in Stillwater, OK, the OACUS works to foster positive development of young children in Oklahoma. As part of this mission, it sponsors annual conferences as well as retreats and workshops, and members work with other affiliated associations throughout the area. In January 1993 the name of the organization was officially changed to the Oklahoma Early Childhood Association.
