Administrative History

The Spur and Comb Club was chartered at Oklahoma A & M College on November 1, 1929. Regular meetings seem to have begun in the spring of 1930. The club sought to further the education of the members through professional improvement and leadership. They sponsored films, speakers, field trips and the poultry judging team. Social events were not neglected by the club. They sponsored activities such as picnics, floats for parades and held a yearly initiation for the new club pledges. A monthly newsletter, The Loudspeaker, and a yearbook, The Avian Age, were published to keep members up to date. The Spur and Comb Club changed its name to the Poultry Science Club on April 7, 1959.
