Collection contains the records of the Students for Homosexual Awareness group at Oklahoma State University, including photocopies of newspaper articles and editorials, correspondence, handwritten minutes that document the effort to organize and gain Student Government Association approval for “registered status” as a student organization.

Administrative History

Students for Homosexual Awareness (SFHA) at Oklahoma State University was organized in 1983. After much debate and threatened legal action involving the ACLU, the organization was granted registered status by the Student Government Association in 1984. Originally called the Students for Gay Awareness (SGA), this organization changed to University Students for Gay Awareness (USGA), University Students for Gay Understanding and Awareness, and Students for Gay Understanding and Awareness.
