Administrative History

A permanent Student Association for Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) governed by the Student Senate was established in 1915. It was originally overseen by the faculty, and later by dormitory house mothers, the Dean of Women (1916), and the Dean of Men (1928). By 1928 the major elements of student service were in place: housing, food service, health, employment, bookstore, recreation and cultural opportunities. The Student Activities Office, now administered by the Vice President of Student Affairs with a subordinate Director or Manager of Student Activities, and located in the Student Union since 1965, tries to support the special interests of the student body, the governing issues of the Student Government Association and administers the policies and procedures of the University as they relate to students.
