In July 1942, Baker was drafted into World War II and was assigned to Special Services where he and his band entertained the troops in Germany and France. After the war, Baker moved back to Oklahoma A&M in the fall of 1946. “The Collegians” stayed together and were chosen as the number-one college band of the year. The band stayed together, performing in Oklahoma City and then touring the country.
