Administrative History
In 1921, during the 14th Annual AHEA meeting in Swamscott, Mass., Mildred Weigley said that Oklahoma asked for and received affiliation blanks. Miss Weigley was chairman of the AHEA Regional Organization Committee. She also reported that Oklahoma was among 21 states either in the midst of deciding about affiliation or in the process of bringing up the matter at a definite time indicated to the committee.
According to the mission statement, OHEA is a “scientific and educational association of home economics professionals.” Their goal is to improve the quality of life for families and individuals. They are affiliated with the American Home Economics Association. Members are active on the local, state, and national levels.
Name change: In 1995 the Oklahoma Home Economics Association changed its name to Oklahoma Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
