Administrative History

The YWCA was officially chartered at Oklahoma A&M College in 1906. Their purpose was to help students build religious character, promote Christian leadership and ideals, and provide services, programs, and activities. In the 1910s they assisted incoming freshmen including helping young women find jobs while attending college. From 1917 to the 1930s the Ys had grown to become the most influential and helpful student organizations on campus. The YWCA, with the YMCA, co-sponsored Religious Emphasis Week and were leaders in discussing contemporary social issues. The YWCA and YMCA combined with the city of Stillwater’s organization to form the Stillwater Family YMCA in 1958.
