Biographical Sketch

Alvord (1844-1904) left Norwich University during his junior year to serve in the Union Army. He was recognized as an expert on cattle farming and wrote many articles about agriculture. Throughout his life he was associated with several land grant colleges. He was president of Maryland Agricultural College and Experiment Station (University of Maryland) from 1888-1892. He was president of Oklahoma A&M College July, 1894 to January, 1895.
