Administrative History

In 1944 Political Science split from History to form a separate department at Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University). The department initially concentrated its efforts on teaching courses in American Government; however, by the mid 1960s it developed a more varied curriculum. In addition to courses in American politics and government, offerings included courses in comparative politics and government, international relations, public administration, political theory, and public law. Political Science was also responsible for the pre-law program. From 1977-1980 the Political Science Department was part of the School of Social Sciences, which drew together smaller departments in the social sciences. During the late 1970s the Oklahoma data archive and a Center for the Application of Social Sciences were devised by faculty in Political Science. During the late 1970s and early 1980s the department expanded and revised programs once again, including programs in University Extension.
