Fractionation Research, Inc. Papers

 Collection
Identifier: 1998-004

Scope and Contents

Collection contains progress reports, plant tests, topical reports, consultant’s reports, and annual reports produced by or for Fractionation Research Inc. (FRI) prior to 1979. Subsequent reports will be added as determined by the FRI Board of Directors. Due to the number of vendors of distillation equipment who test their equipment at the FRI facility, Annual Reports and Progress Reports from 1970-1978 are withheld because of proprietary vendor data. Date ranges for the various reports are as follows: Progress Reports 1954-1969; Plant Tests 1957-1966; Topical Reports 1954-1988; Annual Reports 1955-1969

Administrative History

Fractionation Research Inc. (FRI) was established in 1952 as a cooperative effort among petroleum companies to cost-effectively conduct plant-scale research in order to predict distillation results. As of 2008, 70 companies from 17 countries are members of FRI. Each member company has the opportunity to place a person on the FRI Board of Directors. The Board directs how FRI is run and decides if contract renewal for FRI (every 3 to 5 years) is desirable. FRI moved from California to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1991. Administrative offices are in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
