Administrative History

The Committee for the First Amendment formed in September, 1989, to battle censorship issues on the Oklahoma State University campus; the Board of Regents refusal to show the movie “The Last Temptation of Christ” being foremost among the issues. The group started out mostly as faculty and staff but grew to include students and changed its name to the Freedom of Expression Committee in 1990. The group was also heavily involved in the dismissal of president John Campbell and the resignation of board members Braums and Chesney.
