Administrative History

The Department of Economics began at Oklahoma A&M College in 1914 as the Department of Economics and Marketing in the School of Commerce and Marketing. From 1919 to 1921, classes in economics were offered through the School of Commerce and Marketing rather than from an official Economics Department. In 1921, the Department of Economics is reinstated. Economics joins Sociology to become the Department of Economics and Sociology in 1924, staying united until 1935, except for the 1926–1927 school year. In 1936, the departments separate and the Department of Economics remains independent until 1979. The Departments of Finance and Economics combine to form the Department of Economics and Finance in 1980. In 1983, the departments separated and the Department of Economics has remained independent to the present.
