Scope and Contents

Collection contains an American flag with 46 stars. The flag is a gift of David D. Long whose grandfather, William Hobson Long, graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1923. The flag is purported to have flown in Guthrie, Oklahoma’s first state capital, when Oklahoma was admitted to the Union on November 16, 1907. Flags with 46 stars flew until January 6, 1912 when New Mexico became the 47th state admitted to the Union.

Physical Description

The flag is made from a loosely woven, linen-like material. When it was accessioned it contained a number of small moth holes and is badly frayed for several inches on the top and bottom red corners.
