Administrative History

Kappa Kappa Iota, a national organization, is the oldest sorority for educators. The Sorority was first organized as the Blue Blue Violet in Stillwater in December 6, 1921 under the leadership of Oklahoma A&M College educators Mary Brogden and Mable Caldwell. The group obtained a state charter on January 10, 1922, and at the annual meeting on February 6, 1931, decided to become a sorority. In 1949, Kappa Kappa Iota was nationalized. The sorority’s national headquarters is in Tulsa.

The Gamma Epsilon Conclave of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority was organized January 15, 1960, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Gamma Epsilon was the third conclave organized in Stillwater following the Alpha and Alpha Theta conclaves.
