Biographical Sketch

The correspondence was between Oscar Gardner, his wife Blanch, and friends. The letters concerned daily life as a Presbyterian minister in Oklahoma serving at the Goodland Children’s Home. The bulk of the correspondence was between Gardner and Mrs. & Dr. M.L. Firebaugh, long time workers with the Children’s Home and with friends and fellow ministers Grady James, Hubert H. Hopper and David Stitt. The letters showed that funding was a consistent problem, especially through the depression years. Frequent references were made to the local individuals and their situations. Water A. Bennet collected the material for his thesis on the life of Oscar Gardner. A final and draft copy of the biography is included. Gardner was Minister of the Goodland Mission from 1946-1957.
