Administrative History

On April 19, 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed, leaving 168 dead and hundreds wounded. Almost immediately, small memorials appeared at the bombsite, and it was decided that a permanent memorial was needed. In March 1999, the task force charged with deciding how to memorialize the tragedy recommended three components for a permanent memorial: an outdoor memorial, the Memorial Center Museum, and the Oklahoma City National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism. The outdoor memorial was dedicated on April 19, 2000, and the Memorial Center Museum was dedicated on February 19, 2001.

More information on the Memorial can be found on their website.
