Scope and Contents

Collection contains detailed lectured notes, brief book and article summaries, some correspondence, journal and newspaper articles, photographs, and diagrams.

Parasitology was Dr. Krull’s primary area of study. More specifically, he studied the life cycle of the tremstodes, including the lancet fluke. The Papers of Dr. Wendell H. Krull consist of notes that he utilized in teaching parasitology at Oklahoma State University. The lectures are arranged topically, covering a wide variety of parasitology subject areas. Each lecture also includes the background materials Dr. Krull relied upon when formulating his classes. He incorporated government documents, scientific and research journals, case studies, and other periodicals into his courses, attempting to make the material as current as possible. Numerous revisions are evident.

Biographical Sketch

Wendell H. Krull was a biologist, turned veterinarian. He was born in Tripoli, Iowa in 1897. After serving in the United States Navy, Krull pursued an A.B. degree at Upper Iowa University, which he completed in 1921. In 1924, he continued his studies in biology at the University of Iowa, and then at the University of Michigan, where he completed his Ph.D. Krull then worked as a researcher and administrator for the United States Department of Agriculture. In 1942, Krull left the USDA to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University and then at Colorado State. He completed his studies at CSU, where he soon became a Professor, head of the Department of Zoology, and Parasitologist at the CSU Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1948, Krull left Fort Collins to accept the position of Professor and founding Head of Veterinary Parasitology at Oklahoma A. and M. College (OSU). He remained at OSU until he retired in 1964. Following retirement, Krull worked at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, and then as a professor at Kansas State University.
