Scope and Contents

Collection contains bound volumes and notebooks containing handwritten copies of County Clerk's records. Includes Deed Records, Mortgage Records, Release Records, Assignment Records, and Patent Records. These records are duplicate notes made by a local abstract company. Fire has destroyed many of the records in the County Clerk's office.

The collection is open for research use. Administrative History

Payne County was opened to settlement in the Oklahoma land run of 1889, which occured on April 22, 1889. At the end of the day, Stillwater had approximately 500 residents. In December of 1890, Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, now OSU, was founded.
