Scope and Content

Collection documents the activities of the Stillwater League of Women Voters. The collection is comprised primarily of minutes, reports, and correspondence from 1947 to 2006. It also includes membership lists, financial records, yearbooks, newsletters, program guides, forum questions, pamphlets, and scrapbooks of league activities.

Administrative History

The Stillwater League of Women Voters (SLWV) was established in 1947 as a local chapter of the League of Women Voters of the United States. The SLWV is a non-partisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through research, education, and advocacy. Helen Gorin was born in Nebraska in 1925. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska in bacteriology, zoology, and chemistry and a Master’s Degree from Rutgers University in bacteriology before becoming a member of the SLWV from 1963 until her death in 2004. Among her many duties as a member she researched environmental matters and collected a league scrapbook from 1970-1992. This scrapbook includes, but is not limited to, newspaper articles about the environmental issues she advocated.
