Collection contains correspondence that documents some of the administrative and personnel issues dealing with the OSU program in Ethiopia. Additional materials offer perspective on the program, culture and experiences of the faculty and staff who served in Ethiopia.

Biographical Sketch

William S. Abbott served 40 years as the director of International Programs at Oklahoma State University from its beginning in 1951 until his retirement in January1992. “Abbott served under Randall T. Klemme, vice president for the Agricultural and Industrial Development Service selecting and preparing OSU staff members and their families for service in Ethiopia and rendering valuable service to the principal representative and other OSU personnel in Ethiopia. Throughout his career, Abbott has continued to advise, assist, and encourage staff and faculty serving overseas.” (Centennial Histories Series: International Programs, p. 172-173) Abbott traveled to Guatemala, Colombia, Thailand, Iran, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Algeria between1954 and 1976. He made seven trips to Ethiopia from 1954-1973
