Scope and Contents

Collection contains transcripts, sound recordings, video recordings and various project related documentation from interviews of Oklahoma A&M College/Oklahoma State University alumni.

All interviews have been transcribed verbatim and edited. Master copies of transcripts, audiocassettes, video recordings, and born digital audio recordings, are housed separately (Series V). Materials available for public use include only edited copies of transcripts, audio, and video.

The O-STATE Stories Oral History Project was formed to help record memories and history of the students primarily from the college's OAMC period, prior to 1957. The project has expanded to include faculty, staff and supporters of the University.

Conditions Governing Access

The collection is open for research use. Manuscript collections and archival records may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations, the Oklahoma Open Records Act (http://www.odl.state.ok.us/lawinfo/docs/2006-LibraryLaws-PartE.pdf), and other relevant regulations. Confidential material may include, but is not limited to, educational, medical, and personnel records. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which Oklahoma State University Libraries assumes no responsibility.

Administrative History

Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (OAMC) was established in 1890. In 1957, the school’s name changed to Oklahoma State University (OSU). The O-STATE Stories Oral History Project was formed to help record memories and history of students primarily from the college’s OAMC period, prior to 1957. The project’s focus expanded to include not only alumni, but faculty, staff, and supporters of the University. The pool of interviewees by graduation year includes those of both the OAMC and OSU eras.

The materials in this collection were created or collected by OSU Library project members Janet Ahrberg, Tanya Finchum, Jerry Gill, Mary Larson, Karen Neurohr, Juliana Nykolaiszyn, Jennifer Paustenbaugh, Jacob Sherman and Latasha Wilson. Karen Neurohr served as project director from August 2006-August 2007 and Juliana Nykolaiszyn from August 2007-August 2008. Jerry Gill assumed directorship in August 2008.
